Why do you only sell British wool?

Did you know that there are over 60 native breeds of sheep in the UK, and more than 72 if you include mule/cross-breeds? Yet wool sold to knitters and crocheters has a heavy bias towards merino or acrylics. We want to raise awareness of the wonderful range of wool we can benefit from, and reduce the environmental impact of importing yarns that may have been grown, produced and shipped from multiple countries.

There are so many wonderful yarn shops out there who sell natural fibre yarns as part of their range, and of course some lovely natural yarns from other countries. We sell natural fibre yarns as our only range, and we choose to focus on selling wool that is grown across the UK.

How does your donation model work?

We are currently working on a model called sales fundraising. This means that we commit a portion of our sales - either a percentage or a flat amount per product - to donate to specific causes. We work through a platform called Work For Good, which manages the commercial participation agreement between The Natural Yarn Company and our chosen charities. You can find out more about Work For Good on their website.

Impact and accountability is really important to us, so we will be reporting back on a quarterly basis on exactly how our customers have helped us collectively generate funds to protect nature.

What type of yarn do you sell?

We sell natural British wool that is grown and produced within the UK. We highlight single breeds where possible, and prioritise non-superwash processed wool unless there is a specific reason. Our goal is to highlight the benefits of all the different types of wool fibres we can benefit from in the UK that are beyond 'just merino'. We love merino too, but want people to access a broader range of fibres and help build value back into the British wool market.

Do you ship outside the UK?

At this time we only ship within the UK. Like many small businesses, the recent changes in tariffs, customs duties, and EU regulation on packaging mean that we can't bear the costs of shipping internationally. We hope this will change in the future, so please sign up to our newsletter or follow on social media to stay up to date.

How can I get a refund or an exchange?

We want you to be happy with your purchase but understand that sometimes you may change your mind. You have 30-days from ordering to request a return and refund of your order, provided it is returned in an unopened, unused state, with labels fully attached and is suitable for resale. Please contact us to request a refund before sending it - parcels that are sent without prior acceptance will be rejected.

The easiest way to exchange is to have an agreed return, then place a new order on the website. Please do just get in touch via email if you have any concerns or further questions.
